Woolly Booger Winter

Every July I see a little woolly worm and take this as a predictor of the winter weather to come in 6 months. This year it was short and solid black which means a normal winter for the area I live, which I interpret to be mild.
Last year the first woolly booger was black with one orange/brown stripe. I interpreted a short winter with one severe storm, assuming the storm would happen in January or February like they usually do. But no! We had 9 inches of sleet and ice in December which never happens in North Carolina!
Perhaps I need to refine my weather prediction with the help of a tarot reading.
